Meet the Chiropractor
David Owen, Chiropractor
BSc. Human Sciences(Chiropractic), MSc (Chiropractic), DC
My first career was as a specialist laboratory scientist, but while on an OE — and with the support of my lovely wife Daryl — I decided it was time for a change. I went on to complete a five-year course of study, graduating with a Master’s degree from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in Bournemouth, England in early 2000. Somehow, we even managed to have two children during that time.
In 2003, we moved back to New Zealand and settled in Whakatāne, where we established the Koru Clinic, specialising in pain and injury management. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping more than 7,500 patients find relief from discomfort and regain their vitality.
In 2024, we relocated to the charming community of Clevedon to be closer to family, and I’m excited to bring my experience to a new group of people who deserve the best in musculoskeletal care.
I take an evidence-led approach to chiropractic, with a strong focus on functional assessments and gentle, precise treatment. While some still associate chiropractic care with forceful manual adjustments, I primarily use the Impulse IQ instrument — a computer-guided device that delivers highly specific adjustments at 100 times the speed of a manual thrust. Treatments are done with you lying down in a relaxed position — no twisting required.
My approach also takes into account the bigger picture. Spinal adjustments are important, but so is understanding the role of stress, lifestyle, movement, and nutrition. I believe in working with you to support your long-term wellbeing.
When I’m not at work, I’m usually pretending to be a farmer on our lifestyle block or curating the native bush on our land. Daryl and I are also keen rock ’n’ rollers — it’s good fun and great exercise!
