Meet the Chiropractor
David Owen, Chiropractor
BSc. Human Sciences(Chiropractic), MSc (Chiropractic), DC
A former laboratory scientist, I retrained as a chiropractor and graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in Bournemouth, England in early 2000. My wife Daryl gave birth to both our children while were there and having children while studying was both a great privilege and a challenge.
In 2003, we moved back to New Zealand and settled in Whakatāne, where we established the Koru Clinic. There, I provided care to a wide range of patients, with the primary goal of helping them move as well as possible so they could continue doing the things they love.
We have recently relocated to the charming community of Clevedon to be closer to family, and I’m excited to bring my experience to a new group of people who deserve the best in musculoskeletal care.
Over the years, my focus as a chiropractor has grown alongside my own life experiences. When my children were young, I was helping families navigate the challenges of growing bodies and developing movement. Later, my interest expanded into sports and performance-based care, reflecting my own enthusiasm for the gym and hiking, while continuing to help people recover from pain and injury so they could stay active and do what they love.
Now, as I get a little older myself, I find my practice focussing on supporting healthy ageing — helping people maintain mobility, independence, and quality of life as they get older. Throughout every stage, my goal has remained the same: to provide gentle, precise, and personalised care that helps people feel their best
I take an evidence-led approach to chiropractic, with a strong focus on functional assessments and gentle, precise treatment. While some still associate chiropractic care with forceful manual adjustments, I primarily use the Impulse IQ instrument — a computer-guided device that delivers highly specific adjustments at 100 times the speed of a manual thrust. Treatments are done with you lying down in a relaxed position — no twisting required.
My approach also takes into account the bigger picture. Spinal adjustments are important, but so is understanding the role of stress, lifestyle, movement, and nutrition. I believe in working with you to support your long-term wellbeing.
When I’m not at work, I’m usually pretending to be a farmer on our lifestyle block or curating the native bush on our land. Daryl and I are also keen rock ’n’ rollers — it’s good fun and great exercise!
